I went to a party with Sabina yesterday. It's just downstairs, so we didn't put on heavy coats. When we got there, Sabina started to meet with her friends and invited me to come closer to them. Again, always loud music in a party.
Later, Sabina left a little away from me, and one Irish guy came. He kept talking in English, and his English is fantastic! I even thought he is an American or someone whose mother tongue is English. There is an American boy sat by me, and he seems to speak english slowlier than the Irish guy. Ha~
Honestly, I totally couldn't understand what they were taking about last night when the Irish was there. I forced myself to "hear" thier voices and "understand" the summary at least. Besides, I pretened to smile and nod, as if I had realized. It's so terrible and I was tired because I payed all attention to it.
Anyway, I believe I still learned a lot yesterday. Ivan told me that I do better than he and Sabina thought. They praised me for the "not-bad" English oral ability. And after 5 or 6 months here, I can improve very much.
Trust them and trust myself!

(let me practice my writing~)
Maybe next time you can ask them to slow down a little bit, and if there is something you don't understand just ASK!! it's nothing to be ashamed of, and I believe they will be happy to tell you. Besides, you can learn faster and more that way. You better not pretend that you do understand. (this is based on my experience when I went to San Francisco years ago. I even know one guy who always brought a notebook with him to write down the words that he learned from talking to others. )
GOOD LUCK!!
Thanks a lot! Your precious experience and advice are very usefeul. I will try it.
In fact, many people from all over the world have their own accent, even we speak "the same" language, English. However, everyone is very nice so fay, and if I really don't understand their meaning, They usually like to repeat one more time for me.
But, most of the time, it's me to make them confused because of my poor English. Haha~~ It's ok!
